EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION POLICY

Policy Statement

Our Special Angels SEND CIC is committed to promoting equality, valuing diversity, and creating an inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity, fairness and respect.

We believe that every individual should have equal opportunities to participate in our activities, services and projects regardless of age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy or maternity, marriage or civil partnership, or socio-economic background.

We are committed to removing barriers to participation and ensuring our services are accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all members of the community.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Volunteers

  • Beneficiaries

  • Service users

  • Parents and carers

  • Visitors

  • Partner organisations

It applies to all activities delivered by Our Special Angels SEND CIC including community projects, support groups, events, workshops, training sessions and online activities.

Our Commitment

Our Special Angels SEND CIC will:

SEND Commitment

As an organisation supporting children, young people, adults and families affected by Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), we are committed to promoting inclusion and reducing barriers that may prevent participation.

We recognise that every individual has unique strengths, needs and aspirations and we will seek to provide opportunities that enable everyone to participate meaningfully within our community.


Preventing Discrimination

Discrimination, bullying, harassment, victimisation or exclusion will not be tolerated.

Examples include:

  • Offensive language or behaviour.

  • Harassment based on protected characteristics.

  • Excluding individuals unfairly.

  • Stereotyping.

  • Bullying or intimidation.

  • Online abuse or discrimination.

Any concerns will be taken seriously and investigated appropriately.

Responsibilities

Trustees and Directors

Trustees and Directors are responsible for:

  • Promoting equality and inclusion.

  • Ensuring policies and practices are fair.

  • Monitoring compliance with this policy.

  • Addressing concerns promptly.


Staff and Volunteers

Staff and volunteers must:

  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect.

  • Promote inclusive practice.

  • Challenge discriminatory behaviour where appropriate.

  • Report concerns relating to discrimination or harassment.

  • Follow this policy at all times.

Raising Concerns

Anyone who experiences or witnesses discrimination, harassment or exclusion is encouraged to report their concerns.

Concerns may be raised with:

  • A Trustee

  • A Director

  • A Project Lead

  • The Designated Safeguarding Lead where appropriate

All concerns will be handled fairly, sensitively and confidentially where possible.

Monitoring and Review

Our Special Angels SEND CIC is committed to continually improving equality, diversity and inclusion within the organisation.

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated where necessary to reflect changes in legislation, guidance and organisational practice.
